Welcome to my classroom!
I am blessed to have a large classroom with plenty of storage space. There are 25 student desks, 2 long tables for group activities, a computer for student use, and my cherished Smart Board.
I am blessed to have a large classroom with plenty of storage space. There are 25 student desks, 2 long tables for group activities, a computer for student use, and my cherished Smart Board.
In the front of my classroom, I post the topics of the lessons for each day as well as the homework assignments. Students are expected to copy down the information every Monday after their journal writing is complete.
Students create and start working on writing binders in 5th grade. These binders follow them for the rest of their time here at Oakwood. I have them stored in the classroom, and they are accessible to the students at all times. However, they must stay in the classroom. We use them as storage during the writing process.
In the back of the classroom, students can find art supplies, school information, daily assignments and more. Students are responsible for getting their make-up work when absent.
Every day when the students first enter my classroom, a designated student will hand out their writing journals. Directions are posted on the Smart Board as well as a timer. A typical journal entry takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Topics cover common core, what we are discussing in the current unit, argumentative writing, free writing, and more. These journals are graded quarterly.
Outside my doorway is a glass window that allows me to fill it each month with decor. To kick off the year, I am showcasing/promoting books that I have recently read or plan to read this school year. Soon I'll be putting in fall items for the month of September.
